About This Center

Fundamentally Music has been bringing music to young families in Houston since 2000.    Under the direction of Lizzie Oretsky our teachers are a great mix of performers, educators and musicians.

Mother and child with stirring xylophoneLizzie Oretsky holds a BSE in childhood education and has performed in professional national and international tours all over the United States and Europe under her maiden name Lizzie Lunine.   After marrying and settling in Houston she taught dance and theater at Theater Under The Stars, University Of Houston, St. Agnes Academy and various other schools. After becoming a parent, Lizzie decided to bring music education to families with small children like her own.  She started Fundamentally Music when her twins were 3 years old.  After searching for a music program that would be more varied, fun and educational than the programs she had tried with her own children, Lizzie came upon Rob Sayer's The Music Class, in Atlanta.

The Music Class Inc, an international music education program, was founded by Rob Sayer in Atlanta in 1998. Since that time they have become the largest early childhood music education center in the country.

The Music Class is a research based educational program with the goal of helping parents to enhance their child’s music development during the critical first years of life.

In a survey they did of families 10 years after they were enrolled in their program, 98% of The Music Class graduates reported that their experience in class provided a long term benefit - helping their child to more fully appreciate and enjoy music even ten years later! And  - 88% said it was easier for their child to learn to play a musical instrument compared to other children of the same age.

While Fundamentally Music and The Music Class focus has always been on music development, our programs also help with social and intellectual development.  Grownups and children have a great time together in class, and enjoy meaningful long term educational benefits.
