The Music Playhouse of Chicago
CLASSROOM GUIDELINES POLICY
These policies exist and are enforced to ensure that all of our students and teachers enjoy the best possible classroom experience.
If you have any questions about our policies, please contact our customer service representative at info@themusicplayhouseofchicago.com.
ABSENCES & MAKEUPS
You may reschedule any missed classes up to 4 times per session. Makeups do not roll over, and are non-transferable, so be sure and use them as soon as you miss a class. Makeups MUST be scheduled in advance. Space is limited, so we ask that you schedule your Absences online. This automatically notifies your teacher, and opens up a spot for another family to schedule a makeup.
You may also schedule Makeups and Absences through “The Music Class” App.
GUESTS
Older siblings, cousins, or out of town visitors are welcome to attend our classes as Guests! The Guest fee for guests attending with a registered student is $15. ALL VISITING SIBLINGS or guests MUST complete payment before entering the classroom. Space is limited, so please schedule in advance online or by calling Customer Service.
DROP-INS
The drop-in fee is $20 for the first child, and $15 for each sibling. Space is limited, so please schedule in advance by contacting customer service at info@themusicplayhouseofchicago.com.
FREE SIBLINGS
Siblings under 6 months of age may attend class with their older registered sibling for free. If they turn 6 months old before the session start date, they must register with the sibling discount.
FREE TRIAL CLASS VISITORS
Refer a friend! Friends considering registering for classes are welcome to try a class for free! Pick up a Free Trial Class postcard, and have them mention your name when they call to reserve a spot. Space is limited, so reservations are required. Families are permitted to one free trial class visit only.
SAFETY
Children may not run during class, throw instruments, or distract other children. Parents and caregivers need to be the ones who are making sure their children are safe. If your child becomes disruptive, we encourage your child to take a break outside of the carpeted area for one minute, or until they are ready to rejoin the group. Please see our “Health and Safety” policy for more details.
NO SHOES OR BARE FEET are allowed in the carpeted classroom. Please wear socks.
NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed in the carpeted area with the exception of water and baby bottles.
NO CELLPHONES. You are welcome to take pictures during Free Dance and Play Along only.
NO TALKING. Try not to tell your child what to do in class, but instead SHOW your child what to do. Keep in mind that when grown-ups talk to each other, it becomes distracting to the teacher and to other adults and children in class.
GETTING THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT
EXPECTATIONS FOR KIDDOS: We have no expectations for the little ones! They can wander about the room, they can cling to you, they can sing and dance like crazy, as long as they are SAFE. We know that children learn in all different ways, and we want to allow them the freedom to explore and learn at their own pace. Even if they do not seem to be responding, young children learn A LOT by listening and observing, and they will participate when they are ready.
GROWN-UP PARTICIPATION: We have BIG expectations for our grown-ups! Children learn by listening, observing, and imitating. As their parent or caregiver, YOU are their primary educator. The more YOU enthusiastically participate, the more likely your child is to respond and participate in class.
HOMEWORK: We encourage our families to enjoy practicing the music and activities at home! The most effective learning tool for children at this age is repeated exposure. The more familiar the songs, the more likely your child is to participate and learn in class.
